Last year, I belonged to a running community and our organization “Shanghai Footprints” strove to run the Shanghai Half Marathon. Before the marathon, however, our Chinese educators were apprehensive due to potential health hazards. They voiced strong disquiet with our parents and attempted various methods that discouraged many runners. Some runners accepted it was impossible to defy authority.
“Impossible means I’m possible” and with fortitude on 2013.12.1, a community of 75 high school students from Shanghai Nanyang Model High School finished their very first half marathon. No other organization in China embarked on an initiative like this. China was molded into noticeable improvement as a result of our running valor testing the status.
Running is one of the most affordable forms of exercise for manifestations of healthy results and is the foundation of many sports. Ask any participant of American football, soccer, tennis, or basketball the importance of stamina. Regardless of how distinctive runners from around the world may appear, when juxtaposed we are similar. We share sense of adjusting one schedule to guarantee running maintains central focal component of our day.
We had “Track Tuesday”, “Track Thursday” and road runs on Friday. We ran freely and proudly on the track, along the riverside, besides buses and bicycles, enjoying jealous and surprised sight people stuck on the road poured on us. Most importantly, we shared the best experience on earth: friendship. On the race day, which was the first time when I ran the complete 21km, I was exhausted at 16km. Although I slow down the pace of my team, my partner Vivian continued leading me to run forward and NEVER STOP. As a whole, the community inspired me to employ mental strength and courage to run towards my goals, regardless of any setbacks or challenges in the future may hold.
